The POTS? network in Allegheny County belongs to Verizon. You might be thinking this is not a problem, however since POTS is no longer being used by most people, the network is going through a slow process of shutting down. With that said, the current customers can keep their POTS lines as long as they done turn off service, or more. Verizon will no longer activate new POTS services, and if a current POTS customer moves, they will not be able to their POTS service with them. This will mean that Verizon will be able to dismantle the POYTS line going to your location.
Many houses in Pittsburgh has an RJ11 jack throughout the premise. All of the RJ11 jacks will run to a termination block, then a system board for managing the POTS punch block panels, Verizon will support up to 2 FiOS? telephone lines where the line wil run from the termination block to their FiOS router. The catch is you must use their FiOS router. You do not have a choice if you want FiOS telephone services.
If I had the money to buy my telephone numbers that I would want. I will also likely have the money to buy an abandoned house, and renovate it. Simply put, I will not be running telephone jacks anywhere. If a POTS device was needed, the POTS device will plug into an ATA?, and then the ATA plugs into the LAN? which will send the call over the internet.
