Timeline

If I was to receive a windfall of money, I will want to acquire 2 telephone numbers. The reason for this will make it much easier to remember my telephone numbers. The goal is to port the numbers out of the previous owner’s hands as quickly as possible. Once the port completes, the payment can be authorized. I would assume that the current owners will want a significant compensation understanding that their telephone number has value to someone. With that said, the process will be as follows:

Day 1

I will contact an arbitrator to work with my needs, and desires. I will also tell them the maximum the phone number can cost. I will give him incentive to try to get the number purchase as low as possible, but I will still be prepared to pay my maximum amount. I already have 2 of the telephone numbers noted in this site, so that isn’t an issue since I don’t have to worry about those numbers. I will give the arbitrator the time they would need to make sure everything is above board. The process is I port the number out as quickly as possible, and pay the agreed upon amount as quickly as possible.

Week 1

The arbitrator would have communicated with the owners of the 724, and 878 numbers. If they have any questions, they will be able to call me on my home phone. I don’t want them to notice the similarities of their number with the number they are calling. Once the negotiations is agreed upon, the owner will port the number to a Number Barn account which has a much faster turnover for the porting, and therefore should pay out within a week from the starting process. It would be my responsibility to paying Number Barn to hold my numbers until they port to appropriate carrier. This will cost me extra money, but will be affordable as I will want to close the deal as quickly as possible.

Week 2

The numbers have ported in about 5 days, so I will guess the end of the week. Once the numbers are in my possession, I will notify the arbitrator so they can send the payment. If the previous owner trusts in the arbitration company, the money can directly deposit into their account within a couple of days. Otherwise, a cashier’s check will be mailed to them via USPS Priority Express Mail.

Week 3

Now that I have the numbers I would want, it will now be time to move them to the providers that I would need to move. The previous owners are no longer involved with anything going on beyond here. With me having all of the numbers I will want, it is now time to make the changes. I will contact everyone I want to remain in contact with, and give them a temporary cellular number. This temporary number will be replaced in due time.

For the 412 number, I will start the process with my VOIP provider to port my 412 number to replace the current Home phone line. I will setup unconditional call forwarding to forward to the current Home phone number. This will mean that from that point on, any calls to my 412 number will be sent to my Home, and this will allow me to disable the phone eSIM so the new number can reside on eSIM-1 which is currently hosting the 412 number. This process according to my VOIP provider will take 4 weeks.

For the 724 number, I will sent another porting request to transfer the 724 to my undisclosed fax number. The reason this number is currently undisclosed is I don’t have a fax machine that would be able to be used for this system. I would obviously have a fax machine by this time, but since the current fax number will not be the number I will keep, I will not disclose that number. As with the 412 number, this porting process will take 4 weeks.

My 855 will remain unchanged through this process. There will be no need to change anything, and will remain as my Voicemail number. Since there are no changes needed to be made with this number, things will remain as is. For the purpose of this site, this number will be the only SIP number I will have. I will have other numbers, but these are for the elevator(s), and not a line that I will receive calls with.

The 878 number will become my cellular phone. Immediately, I will acquire my new cellular plan, and will receive a temporary cellular number while the 878 number ports to the new carrier. In the meantime, any calls to the 412 will ring Home. For those that needs to know the number, I will provide the temporary cellular phone number, but will remind them that the number is temporary only. This process should only take a few days, so that will change rather quickly, and it would be possible that no one will call this temporary number while waiting for the 878 to port to my Cell service

Month 3

The 412 and 724 numbers will have successfully port to the VOIP provider. My previous cell carrier will close that particular account, and I won’t have to worry about any future bills. The 724 number will be tested to make sure everything will work properly. I will also send a fax from the fax machine, and make sure that transmission will work. I will also make an outgoing call from the Home phone to my Cellular phone to make sure everything works there too. Number Barn will be canceled, and everything should be working fine.
